AIRDRIE ACOUSTIC CARES
Airdrie Acoustic Cares is a special series of Sunday shows built around the people and organizations that make our community what it is. On select Sundays outside of our regular touring-artist shows, Airdrie Acoustic brings together local musicians and songwriters for an afternoon of live music, community, and giving back.
There’s no fixed ticket price. Pay what you can. Come for the music, stay for the community, and contribute whatever you’re able to give. Each Airdrie Acoustic Cares show supports a different local charity or community organization, with proceeds from the event going directly toward that month’s chosen cause.
WHY WE'RE DOING IT
Live music should be accessible, and community support shouldn’t stop at the stage door.
Airdrie has an incredible collection of musicians, songwriters, volunteers, organizations, and community builders.
Airdrie Acoustic Cares gives those people another place to come together, while using music to support causes doing important work in our community. These shows are intentionally different from our regular Airdrie Acoustic concerts. They’re relaxed, community-focused afternoons where local artists take the stage, audiences get to discover new voices, and everyone has an opportunity to contribute.
EVERY MONTH A DIFFERENT CAUSE
Each show will partner with a different charity or community organization, allowing us to shine a little light on the people doing good work in Airdrie and beyond.
Whether you’re a longtime supporter, a curious first-time listener, or just looking for somewhere to spend a Sunday afternoon, there’s a place for you. Come listen, come play, come contribute,, and most importantly, come be part of the community.
For our November Airdrie Acoustic Cares show, we're bringing together five musicians who have been part of Airdrie's music community for decades: Al Lukiw, Bryant Davies, Gayle Davies, Greg McRitchie and Lori McRitchie.
The term “legend” can mean a lot of things. In Airdrie's music community, it isn't necessarily about fame, record sales or years spent on a big stage. It's about the people who keep showing up at open mics, jams, community events and local shows sharing their music, supporting other musicians and helping create the community around them.
That idea was captured in an AirdrieLife feature on some of Airdrie's local music legends, where musician Steve Jevne described them as people who show up week after week with “no ego, just a love of playing with others and sharing their talent and knowledge.”
Al Lukiw
A longtime fixture of Airdrie's open mic and music community, Al has spent decades playing guitar and performing in bands. Known for his ability to pick up almost any song by ear, he has also made a point of encouraging and supporting younger musicians coming through the local scene.
Bryant Davies
Bryant didn't pick up the guitar until he was 41, but music quickly became a major part of his life. Alongside his wife Gayle, he has spent more than two decades playing in bands, attending open mics and hosting music gatherings that bring local musicians together.
Gayle Davies
A mandolin player and longtime member of Airdrie's music community, Gayle has performed alongside Bryant and other local musicians for more than 20 years. Together, they have helped create the kind of informal, welcoming music community where musicians of different ages and experience levels can play together and learn from one another.
Greg McRitchie
Greg has been part of the Airdrie music scene since the 1980s, playing in church, at open mics and wherever musicians gather to make music. Along with Lori, he has spent decades supporting local musicians and encouraging people who are still finding their feet as performers.
Lori McRitchie
A musician and longtime member of the Airdrie community, Lori has been making music for more than 40 years. She has been involved in local music alongside Greg for decades and has also spent years supporting the Airdrie community through her work with the Airdrie Food Bank.
Together, Al, Bryant, Gayle, Greg and Lori represent something that is at the heart of Airdrie's music scene: showing up, playing together and making room for the next person.
For this special Airdrie Acoustic Cares show, we're putting these local musicians front and centre celebrating their contributions to Airdrie's music community while bringing that same spirit of connection and community into the room.
Five longtime members of Airdrie’s music community Al Lukiw, Bryant Davies, Gayle Davies, Greg McRitchie and Lori McRitchie come together for this special Cares show.
Between them, they’ve spent decades playing open mics, jams, community events and local stages, while helping welcome and encourage other musicians along the way.
This is a celebration of the people who keep Airdrie’s music community going and keep showing up.
Airdrie Branch No. 288 of the Royal Canadian Legion has been part of the community since 1983.
The Legion supports local Veterans, serving military and RCMP members and their families, while also providing community programs, remembrance activities and support for those navigating Veterans Affairs Canada services.
This Airdrie Acoustic Cares show helps support the Legion and the work it does in our community.
